Marion Center Speedway continued its 45’Th season of racing Saturday night with five divisions racing on the quarter-mile clay oval located between Indiana and Punxsutawney.

The first division to take the track was the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks.  Tim White from Punxsutawney started on the outside pole position and quickly took the lead at the first green.  White led the first half of the feature, and then Chris Schneider of Springdale took the lead.  Schneider dominated the track for the next five laps when coming down the front stretch; he suddenly pulled up and stopped.  Afterwards it became apparent that Schneider had blown an engine and stopped to keep from spewing oil down the front stretch.  The damage to the track was kept to a minimum and after applying fresh clay to the track over the oil spill we were good to go.  On the restart Rusty Martz from Brookville took the lead and held off advances by Eric Baun of Rossiter to take the win.  Third place went to Ray Hickok, Jr. from Commodore and he was followed by Jim Fosnaught from Bairdford and Fred Casagna of Vandergrift for the top five.  Next across the line were Eric Lingenfelter of Creekside, Rich Waltman from Coolspring, Scott Bowman, Randy Reitz, and Rod Wilkins.  The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Bob Connors of DuBois and Eric Baun.

The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Steel Block Limited Latemodels were next on the program and Cheyenne Reed from Punxsutawney made his debut this season by leading the cars onto the track.  Dave Buchanan from Cherry Tree took the lead at the start from the outside pole and kept the lead for several laps until Rod Phillips from Punxsutawney took over the lead.  Once in front, Phillips never let up and kept the persistent Scott Stein from Cherry Tree behind him as well as Andrew Satterlee who was coming on strong but just ran out of time to overtake Phillips.  At the checkers it was Phillips with the win then Satterlee from Rochester Mills, Stein and he was followed by Mike Laughard of Twin Rock and Chad Helman of Indiana.  Sixth through tenth places went to Dave Buchanan, Jeff Weakland, Tom Shaffer, Cheyenne Reed and Todd Sallack.  In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic heat races the winners were Jeff Weakland and Rod Phillips.

The Q-102 Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Riceburners took the track and Joe Petyak from Gallitzin led most of the race.  But after the halfway flags were displayed, Larry Depp, Jr. from Punxsutawney kicked it into gear and took the lead.  Depp kept in front for the final four laps to secure the victory.  Petyak took second and Chris Hickok from Commodore was third.  Dan Bish of Hawthorn finished fourth with Ricky Myers from North Cambria hot on his tail.  In sixth through tenth spots we had Shawn Hadden, Jon Lee, Jesse Short, Stephanie Whiteford and Denny Phillips.  The Heat races for the Q-102 4 Cylinders went to Larry Depp, Jr. and Joe Huffman, Jr. from Latrobe.

Then the Lias Tire Latemodels took the track.  Sammy Stile from Charleroi wasted no time in taking the lead away from Clate Copeman from Greensburg.  Copeman started on the pole and was the leader for a half-dozen laps when Sammy Stile took over.  With clear running room, Sammy never had to let up to stay in front of the rest of the pack.  He crossed the finish line and let the others decide who took the rest of the positions.  Second place went to Copeman, third was Rod Phillips from Punxsutawney; Matt Gaston of Rochester Mills was fourth and Wally Fox from Cooperstown was fifth.  The top ten included Denton Boyer in 6’Th followed by Jerry Redden, Dane Laraway, Rick Davis and Will Cochran.  The entire Lias Tire Latemodel finish is posted on the Marion Center Speedway website.  The Lias Tire heat races were won by Dave Blazavich of Marion Center and Sammy Stile who has a great start on winning the Coal Country Challenge (again) this season; a co-operative effort between Marion Center Speedway and Dog Hollow Speedway to give Late Model drivers extra incentive to race at both tracks.

The last race of Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway was for the Mike’s Auto and Towing Strictly Stocks.  Brett Bingaman from Cherry Tree led all but the first lap for the victory as he dominated the feature event.  Giving him some competition were Greg Buterbaugh from Clymer who took second and A. J. Flick from Pittsburgh in third.  Fourth place went to Bryant Small from Cherry Tree and fifth was taken by Justin Queen from Irvona.  The top ten filled out with Nate Smith, Denny Smith, Gary Furman, Jr.; Kylie Hamilton and Robin Welsh.  In the Mike’s Auto & Towing Strictly Stock heat races, the winners were Kevin Kilgore from Kittanning and Greg Buterbaugh.

Coming up next Saturday will be the W. G. Satterlee & Sons night at the track, and the first of the monthly Kid’s Bike Races sponsored by the Indiana McDonald’s restaurants including the McD’s at the Route 22 Resort Plaza in Blairsville.  Kids, be sure to bring your bikes and helmets to participate in the bike races.

Marion Center Speedway would like to thank some of its sponsors this season including Lias Tire –Latemodels, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodels, Q-102 Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder Rice Burners, W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks and the newly sponsored Strictly Stocks by Mike’s Auto and Towing from Clymer.  Also thanks to Butler Auto Supply of Indiana and the Indiana and Route 22 Resort Plaza McDonalds in Blairsville for their support.  Continuing this season is the cooperative effort between Dog Hollow Speedway and Marion Center Speedway to run the new Coal Country Championship Late Model Series so Latemodel drivers can once again go for some big cash money by winning races at both tracks.  More details will be coming about the latemodel series.
